Unearthly; Tape Tektoniks; tek22; C60 tape; 2008; recorded oct 27--nov 30 2007; image
“Two loooooooong tracks of super heavy modular synth research from world’s favorite chief engineer Daryl Groetsch. These recordings defy the laws of nature and leave you lost somewhere at the rear end of a vast universe. Side A sounds like Galactus playing pinball with planets in slow-motion. The flipside is a crawling ether mattress drone in classical void style. Ltd. to 100 copies.”

Nakamichi; GMBY; GB99; 2xCDR; 2008; recorded 12/2006; image
"Massive layers of modular musk find themselves tangled in a web of whispering and crackling triangle and square waves. Over these two discs, Portland's programming master pushes his synthesizer to a new level. The man is so in tune with his machine, I'm starting to have cyborg suspicions. Nakamichi alternates between the murk and the crystalline, splitting the difference with a healthy amount of rasp and gurgle. This 2xCDR set is an edition of 100. It comes packaged in a homemade digipack cut out of recycled LP covers (with actual digipack trays)."

Meditative Music 2; self released; CDR; 2008; recorded 1/2008--2/2008; image; image
"this recording takes you to a peaceful, balanced place, a sound environment befitting sleep, massage, or deep reflective thought. recorded with modular and FM synthesizers for pure waves of simple beauty."

Compilation Submission Collection; self released; CDR; 2008; image
this includes all tracks submitted for compilations through 2007 except those that were vinyl sides, recorded live, excerpts from existing releases, or on joke compilations. some of the comps never came out. a bunch of short, weird tracks, 1 hour 13 minutes in length, in short dvd type case, handmade stamp on cover and disc, each unique, on new/old accounting paper.

Progression to Desolation; Black Horizons; BH-03; LP; 2007; recorded 9/2006; image
"Finally Pulse Emitter gets the treatment he deserves, a full 12" of vinyl to lay down two prog flavoured tracks of synth drone. Created using homebuilt synth modules, and meticulously contructed into a sci fi storyline, this could be a soundtrack. Suffocating layered heavyness, dry synth hiss, oscillator click terror meets equally with beauty, a quality rare among Pulse Emitter's peers. Each cover and insert is a unique paint marbled design, silkscreened / designed over by Nick of Seizure Palace. Edition of 300 copies on black vinyl."

Meditative Music; self released; CDR; 2007; recorded 7/2007; image; image
"use this CD for sleep, massage, or any activity where a peaceful and balanced sound environment is desired. recorded with FM and analog modular synthesizers."

Pulse Emitter / Envenomist split; Black Horizons; BH-14; C46 tape; 2007; recorded 8/2007; image
"Two side-long tracks occupy this release. Both artists here move through dark immersing synthesized environments. Pulse Emitter provides a more barren yet varied track that has movement. Also of note to fans of Daryl's "Meditative Music" release, this has similar yet more ominous tones that create a slowly moving melody. Envenomist's side hits with his longest released track, an ebbing and flowing sea of organic synth waves. J-card is a 3-panel horizontal folding affair, offset printed silver on black linen paper, clear labels. Edition of 150 on hi-bias chrome tapes."

Deadly Space Missions; 8mm recs; CDR; 2007; recorded live 2006/5/27 and 2005/9/7; image; image

Creeping Obesity; Chondritic Sound; ch-163; 3" CDr; 2007; recorded 3/2006; image
"absolute slow motion electronic bombing from one of my favorite current synth steel workers. true nightmare programming to form tight oscillation and shifting buzz to reach an abrupt end. color cover and grossly painted CDr."

Green Comet; Brise-Cul; SADE 059; CDR; 2007; recorded 2/2007; image
"Our favourite electronic engineer finally came with a disc that is perfect for the Brise-Cul label after asking us to not release the first ones he sent us. This oneis a huge behemoth track of Pulse Emitter's fine characteristic loud drone sounds played with a big sense of control few have... I say that just in case you don't know Pulse Emitter... Just in case... The CDR were spray painted on a fucking huge PULSE FUCKING EMITTER stencil and come on pink paper with the schematic of the track..."

Crest; Cloud Valley Recordings; CV-27; c10 tape; 2007; recorded 7/2007; image

Compounded; Vile Bile Tapes; VB08; C16 tape; 2007; recorded 6/2006; image
"Synth madness from my favorite sound scientist. Less cinematic than recent releases, more sci-fi droning weirdness. Always a pleasure. Spray paint and silkscreen."

Planetary Torture; Housepig; CDR; 2007; recorded 4/2006; image
"Portland’s Daryl Groetsch has been releasing sounds under the name Pulse Emitter since 2002. Using hand-built modular synthesizers, he creates torrents of sound that evoke vintage warm drones and mechanized rythyms to chaotic 8-bit crush, and everything in between. In “Planetary Torture” he captures the sounds of world downfall, destruction, and rebirth. This cdr comes housed in an envelope & insert hand-printed by Seattle lino-block artist Nic Schmidt, and is limited to 100 copies."

"sounds far too intricate to be made by a 'drunken' astronaut, he may have been stoned though for all i know...stoned and alone. surrounded by strange buttons and machinery and filled with overwhelming solitude, claustrophobia and vertigo. lost abysmal synth throb from the darkest cockpits."

Pulse Emitter & Pete Swanson; Jyrk; CDR; 2006; recorded 7/2006; image
"Heavy metallic ESP sound on this team-up between Portland-based Kosmiche/threat project Pulse Emitter and Pete Swanson of Yellow Swans. Classic extra-terrestrial tone-worlds that are somewhere between Kluster, CCCC, a riff-less Hawkwind and Spacemen 3 circa Recurring/Suicide. Edition of 150 copies." --volcanic tongue

Fall; Rundownsun; Rundownsun No. 9; c30 tape; 2006; recorded 10/2005; image
"ominous. dark-cloud-doom-drones gather and give way to cold harsh winds of static. dread sets in. paralysis by fear. the deafening hum subsides, the frantic chatter of the final moments breaks through. the last transmission, the last sound before the fall. edition of 100. offset and screen printed 2 panel covers on heavy paper. xerox insert. xerox labels. high-bias tapes."

Suburbia Melting / Pulse Emitter; Dumpster Score; DSC#017; double 3", each with unique artwork; 2006; recorded 7/2006; image
"S.M. makes contact with a tin foil covered radio underneath a local a.m. tower. Processed at home to reach the deepest realms of space. P.E. summons analog demons, with sharpened claws, scraping their way out of your speakers. Your bowels shake with subharmonic tension. Then you see its eyes......"

Mountain; Audiobot; BOT 114; CDr; 2005; recorded 6/2005; image
"Sparse synth drone composition that erases all active knowledge of time and space from your mind. Leaving you numb in a bleak void of throbbing pulse grit. Like being frozen into the core of a misty mountain, no heartbeat or emotion, just pure generated waves of emptyness. Mountain was adjusted in strength and frequency to be a viable base defense. Packaged in demented anti-minimal full color fold-out covers by Jelle Crama & Godrapist, in an edition of only 80 copies. Classify under : alien synth psych."

Collisions; Chondritic Sound; ch-136; 3"CDr; 2005; recorded 6/2005; image

Different Waves; Blossoming Noise; DL01BN; net release; 2005; recorded 12/2004--1/2005; image
This work was recorded in 2004 before, during, and after the tsunami in Asia. It was recorded using modular synthesizer, analog delay, spring reverb, and no hands (no human intervention while recording).

Blood Voltage; SWAMPLAND noise; SWL-024; CDR; 2005; recorded 3/2005; image

Vent; STOP/EJECT Records; EJECT06; CDR; 2005; recorded 3/2004; image
"Sounds projected by bloated synth roadkill overflowing with wiggling, distorted maggots. The scene of a car crash in the Atari dimension where nobody can decipher your 8 bit analog calls for help. Comes packaged in a screenprinted digipak with die cut cover."

Pulse Emitter / Warning Broken Machine; Live @ DIVA 3/19/05; Obscurica Records; OB-006; CDR; 2005; image
"Homemade wave generators and synth components by Pulse Emitter meet opto-theremin and bent-circuit toys of WARNING BROKEN MACHINE. Parts of this are reminiscent of the Forbidden Planet soundtrack.. other parts have some SERIOUS low end sine wave action that will be inaudible unless you have a subwoofer. If you do use a sub, you're in for a sonic treat with this one."
These pieces were performed in conjunction with an event called: Rhythm from Wreckage: Adventures in Vidsonic Art. They played against (or with) video art from Carl Diehl, LoVid (NYC), Sue Costabile (SF), and others.

"Pulse Emitter brings about 20 minutes of super thick and fuzzy synth noise. smooth sounding, but gritty in the loungiest way. Moth Drakula does two reworkings of the same tape loops and a fuzzy 'guitar vs. 16ch mixer' boxing match."
